Do not plug the printer into the power outlet until the following steps have been completed. Reach into the top cover slot 1 and remove the access cover. Remove the printhead shipping restraint.

Keep the shipping restraint for future use. When replacing a ribbon cartridge, make sure you have the correct replacement ribbon for your printer. The wrong ribbon will not print when installed in your printer. The ribbon ink can cause permanent stains. Make sure the printer is turned off!

If you are replacing the ribbon cartridge , remove the used one:. Do not remove the ribbon shield 1 from the new ribbon! Unpack the ribbon cartridge and install it on the printhead. Press gently on the ribbon cartridge until you feel it click into place. Turn the take-up knob 1 in the direction of the molded arrow to take up any ribbon slack.

Align the notch 1 with the pin on the platen shaft and push it firmly into place. The head gap is the distance between the printhead and the platen roller. When you use envelopes or multipart forms, you need to have a larger gap than when using plain paper. Use the recommended head gap to ensure the best print quality and easy paper feed. Incorrect setting of the head gap can cause printhead damage or ribbon jams.

Detach connectors CN 1 and CN 2 from the interface connector board. Remove the three mounting screws 3 at the rear of the printer mechanism 4. Loosen the three 7 mm line feed motor mounting bolts 1. Move the line feed motor 2 closer to the platen 3 and detach the line feed drive belt 4.

Remove the printer mechanism 3. Remove the three mounting bolts and washers 1. Remove the line feed motor 2. NOTE: When installing the line feed motor, the cable should be positioned toward the top. Adjust the line feed belt tension 3. Detach the printhead 3. Work from the bottom of the printer mechanism and loosen the two mounting screws 1.

Detach tabs A and B from the frame and remove the cable holder 2. Raise the front of the printer mechanism. Disconnect cables CN2 1 and CN3 2 from the sensor board 3. Remove the three sensor board mounting screws 4. Remove the two ribbon cartridge bracket mounting screws 1.

Detach the cartridge bracket 2. Detach the ribbon feed assembly 4. NOTE: When assembling, install the ribbon drive assembly so that the gear teeth contact properly 5.

Remove the ribbon feed assembly 3. Loosen the two belt pulley bracket mounting screws 1. While pushing the belt pulley bracket 2 to the left, temporarily tighten the two screws. This will ease the tension on the space belt. Remove the head cable assembly 3.

Remove the space motor assembly 3. Remove the mounting screw 1. Detach the belt clamp 2. Remove the belt pulley 3 from the bracket 4 and detach the space belt 5. Detach the bail arm springs 1. NOTE: The left bail arm spring is longer than the right bail arm spring. Be sure to install each spring on the proper side.

Loosen the screw 1 and slide it towards the back of the printer. Loosen the mounting screw 2 and detach the left eccentric collar 3.

NOTE: The protrusions on the eccentric collars face the outside of the printer. Remove the two springs 1 located on each side of the paper pressure guide 2. Remove the detent spring 3 located on the release lever at the right side of the printer. Remove the mounting screw to remove the release lever microswitch 1. Push down on the mounting tab and remove the printhead gap microswitch 2.
